The BCFSN Soil to Sanctuary Farmers’ Market Program co-creates culturally aligned farmers’ markets with member churches, focusing on community engagement, sustainability, and Black agriculture. By partnering with congregations, we collaboratively set up miniature farmers’ markets at churches on worship or gathering days.
This program supports Black farmers and Black entrepreneurs by allowing them to access niche markets while providing congregants and neighbors with nutrient-rich foods. Vendors report increased sales, and attendees enjoy these uniquely tailored events.

Operation Higher Ground connects our member churches to land stewardship by assisting them in growing gardens on their land. These gardens become vibrant hubs for the community, fostering health, environmental, and economic benefits. By aligning church-owned land with agricultural initiatives, we unlock many advantages for the Black community and beyond. Currently, we offer training, technical assistance, networking opportunities, and information on funding for our member churches across the United States.
If your church is interested in starting or expanding a garden, please complete our form to join as we grow together in this mission.

The Black Farm Tour takes trips “down home” to North Carolina or a little closer home, visiting farms and gardens in our communities, Black-owned farms, and BCFSN member church gardens. This initiative partners with member churches and organizations to create unique experiences that foster meaningful relationships with Black farmers, educate participants about sustainable farming practices, and immerse them in the rich heritage of Black agriculture.
The tour inspires participants to make a difference in their communities by offering a transformative journey that connects agriculture, food system organizing, and heritage, helping elevate local efforts and significantly impact community growth and sustainability.
The ARC Program draws inspiration from the story of Noah’s Ark, fostering partnerships with churches and organizations to build sustainable food ecosystems. By collaborating with Black farmers and aggregators, the program aims to create Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) initiatives and facilitate bulk purchases. This approach mirrors Noah’s mission of preserving life, focusing on nurturing community resilience and food security. Together, we build a modern “ark” of abundance and sustainability, ensuring communities have access to fresh, nutrient-rich produce.
Join the ARC Program in cultivating a thriving, interconnected food network that supports and uplifts all.
